Sophie started acting relatively late in life at the age of 21. Up until then, she concentrated on music, studying the violin and piano at the Royal College of Music Junior Department where she played and sang in various chamber groups, choirs and orchestras.
Sophie discovered her passion for theatre through studying Shakespeare in Performance, one of the courses she took at university as part of her degree in English and Related Literature. She graduated from the University of York in 1996 with a BA(Hons) degree in English and immediately got involved in acting training, attending the Orange Tree Theatre Summer School followed by a year long Foundation Course in Acting at Mountview Theatre School where she studied acting, voice, movement and dance. Sophie was Stage Manager for Surrey and Middlesex Youth Theatre Company in 1996 before making her acting debut with Youth Action Theatre in October 1997.

As well as drama, Sophie also enjoys circus arts and has performed and taught juggling and club swinging. Her favourite skills are fire swinging and club passing.
