    Spring 2013 :: Doctor Faustus :: Reading/Auditions

    YAT will next meet at its regular workshop/rehearsal space at Collis School, Fairfax Road, Teddington from 7.30pm on Monday 28 January 2013 where we will be holding workshops for Doctor Faustus.

    This is one of the greatest ever theatrical tragedies written for the English stage. It follows the fortunes of a learned scholar who signs away his soul to Lucifer in his quest for ever greater wisdom, power and pleasure.

    The legend of Faust takes us into the world of the Black Arts. A Chorus of narrators transports us across oceans, and back in time. We see Faustus, accompanied by Mephistopheles, tempted by the Seven Deadly Sins; conjuring up Alexander the Great and Helen of Troy; tricking the Pope and performing for Emperors, Dukes and Duchesses. As the battle rages for his soul Lucifer, Beelzebub and an army of devils are called upon to make sure that the Good Angels do not win back the soul of our tragic hero. Meantime a group of comic characters try to emulate the conjuring prowess of Faustus, only to become the victims of their own meddling.

    It should be a lot of fun and a great challenge so don't miss out! With such a large and unusual cast of characters there will not only be a lot of acting opportunities but also plenty of backstage and technical assistance required, especially with costuming and make-up! So bring along as many friends that you have who are interested in getting involved, we will need them all!

    WORKSHOPS BASED AROUND THE SCRIPT OF DOCTOR FAUSTUS
    Monday 28 January at 7:30pm
    Thursday 31 January at 7:30pm
    Monday 4 February at 7:30pm
    Collis School, Fairfax Road, Teddington

    We will start with some workshops led by Dr John Buckingham, an expert on Renaissance drama. John did a lot of work with YAT in the 1980's and has been a keen supporter of the group ever since. It is a great honour to have him back to help introduce this play to the group, so don't miss out on this wonderful opportunity. Everyone is welcome to join in the workshops regardless of whether or not you are able to take part in the production itself.

    For those in the production the workshops will introduce everyone to the many varied characters in the play and some of the dramatic scenes that ensue. We will use the workshop exercises to work out who will be best suited to each of the parts, so that we are ready to commence the rehearsal period as soon as the series of workshops are complete.

    In true YAT tradition this is a play with a very large cast with parts a plenty.
