Petition
Help save the future of YAT for generations to come

Why are YAT running a Petition?

For the past 45 years we have benefited from using Collis and Teddington Schools for our rehearsal space. We know that for at least the last 20 years this has been funded by a rent subsidy from Richmond Borough Council under their Dual Use of Schools Scheme and is currently valued at £9,925. The scheme pays the Schools to stay open in the evening and provides youth groups like YAT with a free, safe and secure meeting place. The Council have advised us that this funding will be withdrawn from July 2015.

Why does YAT need a rent subsidy?

As a free not-for-profit organisation we rely on selling tickets to our shows for the group to survive. Sourcing the additional expense could mean having to charge our members a fee to take part and would be completely against our ethos of inclusivity. Alternatively, we do not want to increase ticket prices for our loyal audiences as many of them are students and young people themselves.

Who can sign the Petition?

Anyone who LIVES, WORKS or STUDIES at an address in the Richmond Borough. Age is not a restriction, as long as the person can write their details and sign their name. Our goal is to get over 1,000 signatures which will force a Council debate that we can attend.

Where is the Online Petition?

Unfortunately, the Borough Council's ePetitions website is currently broken and they will not accept any other type of online Petition. Until their website is fixed, we are having to run our Petition entirely on paper. This can be combined with an online Petition at a later date.

How do I sign the paper Petition?

Click here to download and print our paper Petition, then sign it and get all your friends and family to sign it as well. Whilst it would be great to get a completely filled sheet, even just a handful of signatures will help us. When you are ready to send it back to us, you can either post it to YAT (c/o Hampton Hill Playhouse, 90 High Street, Hampton Hill, TW12 1NY) or contact the Management Committee via our Contact page.
